By Road

Guwahati is very well connected with the adjoining cities and states through bus service. The three nodal points of Adabari, Paltan Bazar and ISBT Guwahati provide bus services to towns and cities in Assam and adjoining states.

Guwahati Airport / Rly Station – Kaziranga National Park (220Kms/5Hrs)

On arrival at Guwahati Airport / Railway Station you will be greeted by our Local representative who will transfer you to Kaziranga National Park, the home of "One Horned Rhinoceros". Check in at your hotel. Evening is free for leisure. Overnight stay at Kaziranga.

Day 2
Kaziranga National Park

Early morning explore any one zone of Kaziranga National Park on back of an Elephant. Apart from the Rhino, other species found here are Hog Deer, Swamp Deer, Wild Buffalo, Elephants and if you are lucky then tiger as well. It is also home to pelicans, storks and darters as there are a number of water bodies inside the Park. Return to the resort for breakfast. In the afternoon enjoy jeep safari through the National Park. Return to the hotel. Overnight stay at Kaziranga.

Note: Jungle Safari in Kaziranga National Park officially opens from 01st November.

Kaziranga National Park – Shillong (295Kms/7Hrs)

After breakfast proceed for Shillong (4,900 ft.), called 'Scotland of the East". Enroute visit Umium Lake, a majestic placid lake with its surrounding sylvan hills. On arrival at Shillong, check in at your hotel. Evening is free for leisure. Overnight stay at Shillong.

Excursion to Cherrapunjee (60Kms/2Hrs)

After early breakfast drive to Cherrapunjee (4,400 ft.), the wettest place in the world. You will see the beautiful waterfall known as Nohkalikai. You can also explore the caves known as Mawsmai. Evening return to Shillong, enroute visit Elephanta falls and Shillong peak for some breathtaking views. Overnight stay at Shillong.

Shillong – Guwahati Airport / Rly Station (100Kms/3Hrs)

After breakfast check out from the hotel. Later our local representative will transfer you to Guwahati Airport / Railway Station for your onward journey.

Guwahati - The gateway to the northeast and the largest and most cosmopolitan city in the region, Guwahati serves as the starting block for most northeastern itineraries. It is the capital of Assam and lies between the banks of the Brahmaputra river and the foothills of the Shillong plateau.

Kaziranga - Kaziranga National Park – a world heritage site, the park hosts two-thirds of the world's Great One-horned Rhinoceros. Kaziranga also boasts the highest density of tigers among the protected areas in the world and was declared a Tiger Reserve in 2006.

Cherrapunjee - Cherrapunjee is a stunning location and the year-round rain earned Cherrapunjee coveted entry long ago into the Guinness Book of World Records as the wettest place on earth, the place where the rainfall can be recorded in feet rather than in millimeters. It lies in the heart of the State of Meghalaya-the abode of clouds.

Shillong - Scenic beauty, cheerful people, clouds and tall pines, mountains, valleys, meadows and an excellent golf course make Shillong a great destination. It is fondly known as the 'Scotland of the East' and is the capital of Meghalaya.

Shopping And Entertainment

Shopping in Meghalaya can be exciting, as the state has a well-known handicraft industry that is run by the tribal people. Some of the important shopping hubs are:

Shillong- There is a plethora of options for shopping in Shillong and some of the prominent markets include Barabazar and Police Bazaar. Shopaholics can head to Barabazar, which is one of the oldest and traditional markets in Shillong. Renowned as the Iewduh Market, Barabazar is the place to buy local handicrafts made out of bamboo and wood. Tibetan artefacts, honey, bamboo pickle and Khasi dresses are some of the other things you may buy from here. Another important market in Shillong is the Police Bazaar, which has small shops offering various options to the buyers. Authentic local handicrafts and souvenirs are available at Purbashree in Police Bazaar, which is an emporium run by the Government of Meghalaya.

Guwahati- Shopping in Guwahati includes buying Muga, Pat and Endi silks; bamboo and cane decorative items. There are plenty of government emporiums that sell these at reasonable prices. The main shopping areas are Paltan Bazaar, GNB Road and Fancy Bazaar.

Money- The currency of India is Indian Rupees (INR). The currency exchange departments are present in almost every Indian city. You can also exchange your currency in 5 star and 4 star hotels, no other currency is valid except for Indian currency (INR).

Best time to Visit- One can visit Meghalaya any time of the year.

Language- Khasi, Pnar and Garo are the main languages spoken by the tribal's.

Festivals and Fairs in Meghalaya- Meghalaya celebrates a few festivals with gusto and some of them are the Nongkrem Dance which is held in October/November. This Khasi festival is a thanksgiving to the almighty for a good harvest, peace and prosperity. The Wangala is an important festival of the Garo tribe. The festival, also called Dance of Hundred Drums, marks the end of a period of toil and heralds a good yield and it is celebrated in November. Behdienkhlam is celebrated in July every year by the Jaintias right after sowing the crop. Young men beat the rooftops of every house with bamboo poles. This is a symbolic gesture of driving away the evil spirit, plague and pestilence.
