Patnitop-Discover Your Own Fairytale

Patnitop is a beautiful hill station located in the Udhampur District of Jammu and Kashmir and it was originally known as 'Patan Da Talab', translated as ‘the pond of the princess’. According to a legend, the pond was used by an actual princess for her daily baths and the name however changed to Patnitop from 'Patan Da Talab' over the years. During the winter season, tourists make a beeline to Patnitop to participate in a number of outdooractivities, such as skiing and trekking and it is also suitable for activities, such as golf, paragliding, aero sports,horse riding and photography, among others.

How to Reach:

By Road
Buses and taxis are available from Jammu/Katra/Udhampur. By a taxi it takes about 3 and a half hours to reach Patnitop and bus takes about 5 hours.

By Train
Nearest rail station to Patnitop is Udhampur. Udhampur has two trains that touch New Delhi. Best train is 12446 Sampark Kranti Express that starts from New delhi and reaches Udhampur at 8.05 am. From Udhampur, you can take a bus to Patnitop, which reachs there in an hour. 

Places of Tourist Interest:

Madhatop 
It is another one of the most famous tourist destinations for all those travelers who are planning to visit Patnitop and is located at almost 5 km trek away from Patnitop along the Sanasar Road. This beautiful region of Madhatop remains roofed with thick snow during the winter season that lures adventure lovers especially attracts skiers. At this place, visitors will get almost 3 fresh water springs which is located here and are well known as popular site due to its curative properties.

Billo ki Powri 

"Billo ki Powri" is a staircase of 270 steps carved in mountain stone. Although the exact date of this landmark is debatable and lost in the shrouds of time, locals claim it was built by the former king of Chenani as a shorter and easier access to Batote town.

Sanasar
Sanasar lake, 20 km (12 mi) from Patnitop by road, offers paragliding, camping, trekking, abseiling, rock climbing and scenic nature walks.

Things to Do:

Trekking 
A range of trekking options is available here. Summer is the season when all trekking routes are open while some are open in winter too. There are excellent camping sites also enroute.The Sundarani- Jungal Gali-Jasarkote-Sanasar route in Jangal Gali area lets you choose any of three exciting treks.

Skiing 
Skiing courses are conducted at Patnitop in the months of January and Feburary. During winter months there are introductory courses for tourists/beginners at gentle gradient slopes of Patnitop.

Aero sports
Paragliding has been introduced at Sanasar and Jammu. Equipments are available on Hire from tourist office in Jammu city. May-June and Septemer-October are best suited for paragliding. Other aero sports like Parasailing and Hotair ballooning are also becoming operational shortly.
