The Bhubu pass trek begins in Kullu valley and crosses over into the Kangra valley. Usually used only by locals in winter. The trail pass through some of the least trodden areas in the Kullu valley. The area is pristine and the trail involves lots of ridge hiking with spectacular views of the Kullu and Kangra valleys. The trail offers big views of Indrasan and Deo tibba from the pass. The area has a high density of Khaleej pheasants and we have also spotted the Western Tragopan twice on this trail on previous trips.

Getting There
By Air

The nearest airport is at Bhuntar, which is about 50 km from Manali. Bhuntar is well connected to Delhi which is about 565 km away from Manali.

By Rail

The nearest broad gauge railheads are at Chandigarh (315 km), Pathankot (325 km) and Kalka (310 km). The nearest narrow gauge railhead is at Joginder Nagar (135 km).

By Road

Manali is well connected by road to Delhi through NH-21 and NH 1, leading to Manali from New Delhi are the towns of Panipat and Ambala in Haryana, Chandigarh (Union Territory), Ropar in Punjab, and Bilaspur, Sundernagar, and Mandi in Himachal Pradesh. State owned services are also available connecting Manali to other cities.

Day 1
Arrive In Manali

On arrival at Manali, you will be transferred to hotel, after check-in spend whole day resting and evening at Leisure, Overnight stay will be at Manali.

Day 2
Drive Dalighat and trek to Dak Bunglow

Today in the morning we assemble at the Saba restaurant on the Mall Raod in Manali by 8:30 am. We will then drive down to Kullu and from Dhalpur we will take a turn into the Lug Valley. The landscape immediately changes. The Lug valley is a narrow valley as we enter it from Kullu. We drive past small villages till we reach the last village at Dalighat which is also our road head for the trek. We will find our horses and horse man who will meet us and we pack up the horses and are ready to hike. The walk to Dak Bungalow is though thick mixed forest of Deodar, Oak, Walnut, Horse Chestnut and Cedar. Keep you watch out for the rare sightings of the Western Tragopan as the Lug valley still has a sizable population of this elusive Pheasant.

Day 3
Dak Bunglow – Jhingbhan over bhubu pass (3000m)

Today after breakfast we will continue our climb through Oak and Deodar forest. As we get higher we get awesome views of Indrasan and Deo tibba. The Bhubu pass itself is marked by a small temple shrine of lord Ganesh. From the pass we get more big views of the Kangra valley on the other side which we intend to enter. After the pass the walk to Jhingban us a ridge walk though open grassland and mixed forests. The views of the Kangra valley are simply stunning.

Day 4
Jhingbhan – Dentbhial

Today we will continue with our ridge traverse and have fabulous views of small Kangra villages perched on mountain sides with terraced farms. Our nights camp is in a small forest clearing with a lovely brook flowing close by.

Day 5
Dentbhial – Mulling

Today we do more traverse though open meadows and alpine patures. Along the way we will cross a few streams and more Kangra villages where you get to see and experience some local Himachali culture and village life first hand. The walk to Mulling is a descent down to the Barot nulla and the a steep climb up to the road where we will find our taxis waiting for us to drive us to Dharamshala. Enroute you can choose to stop at the small village of Barot which is also famous as a trout angling and fly fishing destination. Barot has also one of the oldest power project in Himachal. Beyond Barot you will also drive past the town of Bir – Billing which is a famous paragliding site. Every year in the month of Oct and Nov the idyllic town of Bir transforms itself into a paragliding hub and pilots from all over the world travel here to enjoy the clear Dhauladhar skies with their Paragliders.

(Taxis pick us up at Mulling and will drive us to Dharamshala)

Cancellation Policy
  • If you cancel 20 days before the trip begins, we retain 20% of the trip cost.
  • If you cancel 15 days before the trip begins, we will retain 50 % of the trip cost.
  • If you cancel less than 14 days before the trip begins, or, are not present when the trip begins, there will be no refund.

  • All participants are requested to download the risk form sign it and get it with them on their respective trips. 
  • Payment terms will be 50% in advance along with program confirmation. 
  • Govt. Service tax @ 9% will be applicable on the total bill.
  • We will take every care to ensure that itineraries are followed to the letter but circumstances beyond control may necessitate changes. In case of changes routes and properties, we will accept no liability but make arrangements for substitution of equal.
  • We will accept no liability for any damage, losses and expenses suffered by any client as a result of sickness, quarantine, weather conditions, war, strikes, riots or any other cause outside our control.
  • Any damage, other than that attributable to fair wear and tear, to the equipments by the participants will be billed to you. Our decision on all such matters will be final and binding.
  • In the event of any dispute, all matters will be subject to the sole jurisdiction of the courts of Himachal and the prevailing law of India shall prevail. Recourse to the courts of any other country will not be applicable.
